Books

Clive Morton is the author of three management books and co-author of one:-

In October 1994 Macmillan published his first book Becoming World Class which won the Management Consultancies Association prize for the Best Management Book of the Year.

"I learnt a great deal from this book and I would be very surprised if there is ...anybody who wants to do business with the Japanese, or to succeed in world competitive terms, who will not find something worthwhile in this book... Rather than reading book after book detailing exactly how the Japanese do it, or why it is impossible to compare with the Japanese industrial machine, I would commend my fellow manufacturers to read this book... There is only one alternative to becoming world class and that is that we go out of business." - Sir John Harvey Jones

A second volume, Beyond World Class, dealing with sustaining world class performance for individuals, organisations, society and making strategic choices for the future, was published in June 1998.

"Clive Morton gives a masterful sweep across many of the issues which concern managers at all levels today. He combines academic theory from East and West with his practical experience in a wide range of businesses. In this book he places the ideas which he helped to develop in these businesses into a broader management context. He focuses not only on the needs of partnership but on the roles the individual must play within various partnerships to achieve ongoing success in a climate of change and uncertainty." - Richard Maudsley, Former Managing Director of Rolls-Royce Industrial Power Group

In October 2001 CIPD published Clive’s latest co-authored work Leading HR – delivering competitive advantage.

"For too long, fresh thinking in HRM has come from academics. This book breaks that monopoly. By narrating their own experiences, the authors provide a blueprint for the new age: one that chimes with the instinct of HR professionals. This book is a must for anyone involved in managing the complexity and fluidity of today's workplace" - Amin Rajan, CEO Create

In October 2003 Middlesex University Press published Clive’s latest book By the Skin of Our Teeth on business sustainability.

Clive Morton has produced an inpirational account of leadership in the 21st century, which both executives and students will find thought-provoking and of great practical value.

By the Skin of Our Teeth is an inquiry into the sustainability of organisations in the 21st century. Morton's conclusions are drawn from lengthy interviews with thirty-four Chief Executives or their equivalent, from a variety of large corporations, SME companies, public sector bodies and voluntary organisations.

What emerges from these fascinating accounts is a coherent and easy to assimilate philosophy of eladership and best practices which can be used to drive organisations forward in today's challenging environment.

In 2004 Palgrave published a work co-authored by Clive Morton and Chris Banks in "Public - Private Partnerships: Policy & Experience" on "Assessing the Appropriateness of PPP and Overcoming Potential Resistance."

In 2008 CIPD published a co-authored work "Human Resource Management - a case study approach". Clive contributed to a chapter entitled:- "Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable HRM.
